For whatever reason, I've been strolling down my own personal memory lane tonight. On Saturday, I watched one of the Gaither Homecomings on TV. Travis thought I was nuts. However, I grew up listening to the Gaithers with Mema and Papa and even went to the National Quartet Conventions. I was fascinated. There was something magical about their singing. It was a huge part of my love for singing in the beginning, and I would study their singing. I dreamed that I, too, would be on one of Bill Gaither's homecoming shows. I don't care if you like Southern Gospel or not, they are still some of THE most talented singers. While I certainly don't consider myself a Southern Gospel singer, I appreciate the love for music and worship that it instilled in me. Because I was a child, I was drawn to one of the younger groups: The Martins. Angie, if you're reading, testify. ha! I was youtubing them tonight, and I STILL love them. I still knew many words to many songs and smiled at some of the "specials" of their's that I would do in my own church. There is NOTHING like a tight, family harmony.
Check THIS out. Amazing. Their harmonies are INSANE!
Here's a FEW of my specials that I did at church back in the day...whew...so many memories. Mom, you are WELCOME.
Except for Grace I still love this song and would still sing it today if given the chance. It's beautiful. I still have the track, too. :)
Because God's Good (Yeah, I rocked that...and thankfully their look evolved.)
Count Your Blessings (REALLY? Travis said. lol This one got the people on their feet. I am totally cracking up thinking about it.)
It Came To Pass (My very favorite. I went through some ugly spots in high school, and this song was my promise. Still is actually...I'm so glad I did this blog nonchalantly only to be reminded of this song I'd forgotten about. I needed to hear it without even knowing it.)
Anyway, again, I'm thankful for what I learned from these guys and some of the music that became a part of me. I did find a song I'd never heard from them (I haven't really kept up all these years later as my own taste and style changed), but I thought it was kind of nice. Look here, mom. :)
