Until We Meet Again

Today marks the 6 year anniversary of my aunt Carol's passing away. I thought of it today when I was reading the different things her children wrote on Facebook. It's not really an anniversary of her death at all--but her life. 6 years ago, she really began and entered into what we are all living and longing for (whether you're aware of it or not): a life face to face with the One who conquered Death and took away its sting. I think of her often.

She and I were a lot alike, I think: stupid humor, loud laughs, not at all afraid to embarrass ourselves. She loved holidays and decorated for any and all of them. She always tried to plan and do fun things with her kids. I see this trait particularly in her daughter, Amber. I can still hear the way she said my name. And her contagious laugh. She loved to dance and have fun. She loved animals and would verbalize what she believed to be their internal dialogue (usually in some sort of accent lol). She was a great mother. Most importantly, she loved her Savior and believed He would deliver her; He did not disappoint. I carry some of her with me, as do all of us who loved her. See you again, Carol.

*My brother sketched this picture of her after she died, and it was placed on her casket at the funeral home. He drew it by looking at a picture he found of her from Thanksgiving, I believe. Each family member wanted a copy of it and received that. He's a wonderful artist and always has been.
