A Room Makeover

A few weeks ago, I wandered into Z Gallerie and came across a really pretty comforter in their clearance section. It was lavender silk. It was also $34.95, regularly $175. Sweet! They also had 2 standard shams that matched for $7.99 a piece. DONE. How could I pass that up? Travis was with me, and he was like, "Sure, it's fine." Well, I got it home not thinking a whole lot about anything other than my good deal. I put it on the bed only to realize how HORRID it looked against the gold walls. And red curtains. And lamps. So as one thing usually leads to another, it lead to a total room makeover (that's still in progress). Travis surprisingly said to me, "That's fine because I've wanted to change the color of the room for a while now." We've been married 8 years, and we've had the red and gold in our room that entire time. So, with the help of my mom and Travis and some suggestions from Chrissie, here's our new room!

First you have to see the before...
Even those frames needed a makeover.
Here's the after! I just love it. I think it softened it and modernized it all in one! My mom helped me a lot because my deal is that...I want my house to look a certain way, but I don't know how to do it. Or...my attention drifts when looking for pieces to accomplish it. For example, Mom and I went to look at pillows. She was in bedding, and on the way to it, I got lost in jewelry. :)
Travis painted the walls in "antiqued silver." The bedding is all from Z Gallerie. The lamps are from Target. I purposefully chose one lamp in circles and the other in squares. Because I'm a circle and Travis is so square. :) We also rearranged the room, if you can't tell, and it makes it look HUGE. I don't know why I never tried it before. Travis actually did it while I was gone when he painted, and I said, "As long as you're prepared to switch it back if I don't like it because you know how I am." But I love it.
Wall art from Z Gallerie. Love those jewels. (Thank you, mom!) Window treatments? Brace yourself for shock: WAL-MART. Mom found them, and I thought they looked green. So we got two for one window because it said "Gray Ombre", and it looked great!

Travis sprayed the frames in a textured spray paint in charcoal. Good as new!
I still have some accessories to go as time goes on, but for now, I just wanted to post the drastic change. I have plans to get some canvas and paint some type of abstract and even let the kids get on it. I'm a little afraid of that at the moment, though. Let you know how that goes.

And just because he's cute. :)
