Berry Picking: Blueberries

About a week ago, I saw some pictures that my friend posted of when they went to pick fresh berries. I asked her about it and thought that it sounded like a lot of fun, so my friend, Jill, and I planned to go sometime the next week. I asked Travis to help me with directions because all we knew was that it was in Talladega. Since our pediatrician is there, I didn't think it'd be a big deal to find. This past Saturday was beautiful and Travis was home, so he asked if I wanted to go that day. I thought it sounded like a good idea, so at the last minute, I texted Jill to see if she wanted to come with us. I was surprised that she was going to get to come because it was so spur of the moment. I'm so glad that I took Travis up on his offer of going that day because it was WAAAAY out in the middle of nowhere, but it was worth the trip. Fresh, organic blueberries, raspberries and blackberries were all around us literally for the picking. The nice owner told us to go ahead and start with the blueberries because they take the longest, and she was correct. Picking a gallon of blueberries is a big job, but it was nice. It wasn't too hot, and she told us to eat them off of each bush to see what the taste was like because each one was different. I had NO problem with that. The kids loved it. It was so different for them, and since we pay $3-$4 for about a cup of blueberries at Walmart (that is gone in 4 days), this was well worth our day.

Here they are ready to go.
I should have mentioned that the name of the place was Holmestead Farms. I highly recommend it.
The blueberry bushes had lots of berries but not all were ripe. There were some that were a more purple blue, and they weren't ready. Jaggar actually did really well picking the right ones after we explained it to him. He loved it.

And she did, too.
It was so peaceful there. Aside from our crew, there was only one other lady there with her child and she was helpful. I guess that you can find peace outside of civilization though.
Sage and Cailin
Most of these aren't ready, but you can see the look of it. I don't think I'd ever seen a blueberry bush before this.
It was such a pretty place.
Cailin trying out a few. No one ate as many as I did, I feel sure.

:)
He was good as long as he could hold the bucket, which weighed quite a bit by the time it was full.

Getting more buckets to pick blackberries
I'll post the other kinds of berries next because I had so many pictures. I had to divide it up somehow.
