Introducing Dr. Dizon

It became official on May 16, 2010. Mitch Dizon became Mitch Dizon, MD. During the hooding ceremony, the graduates walked over to a podium and were able to sign their names with the MD after it for the first time. This was up on a screen for all to see. Cool moment. They couldn't really find any big speakers for the ceremony, so they just got the United States surgeon general, Dr. Regina Benjamin. Yeah, no biggie.

She said some very beautiful, inspiring things that stuck with me, and I wasn't even graduating. Things like, "Some of your hands will be the first an infant feels as they enter this life while some of your hands will be the last an elderly person holds as they leave this life." Where's the kleenex?! Also things like, "More than anything, people will trust you and put their faith in you. A mother trusts you with her baby, whether her baby is 3 months old or 30 years old. Never forget that." I think all doctors that have been practicing for a long time need to hear things like that again.

And here he is, Dr Dizon (forgive the blurriness of the pictures. we were in the balcony since we had Jaggar with us. He was EXCELLENT, by the way.)

After the ceremony, there was a reception for all of the doctors and their families and friends at the Sheraton. It was very nice. Poor, sweet Jaggar was done by this point as he was tired and sick (literally).
Dr. Dizon and me
Mitch kept it real as I would have in not letting a cap and gown cramp his personal style. Check out those white cowboy boots. He said the doctors stared at him the entire time he walked across the stage. haha. Congratulations, Mitch! You did it! Only four more years of residency!
This was on the way home. Fever, runny eyes and nose. Pray for this sweet angel as he has his own celebration coming up in just a few, short days!
