Parent Day at Dance

Two weeks ago, Sage had her first of two parent days for this dance year.  It really happened this time.  I was REALLY able to see all of the time and money we've poured into this for Sage.  I've always thought she was good and that she had an ability, but this time, other people saw it.  When she was younger, there were a few girls that were just naturally skilled, and they were always the head of the class.  There was just no denying it.  This year, I saw Sage blow those girls away.  I was SO proud.  People were whispering to me how good she was and how good she looked.  She has the body for it (we all know where that comes from) and she just is GOOD.  I put up a few videos so you can see for yourself.

Another Year of Dance

Sage started her 6th year of dance on Monday!  How is that possible?  This year, all 3 of her classes are on Mondays back to back.  Tap, ballet and jazz.  It's a long day, but it's OVER..or so we thought.  But when I went to buy new shoes, they invited her to a new company class that they are starting for juniors.  This helps stretch them and basically teaches them DANCE, not a routine.  She had her first class yesterday, and she LOVES it.  They require this for those that compete, but you don't have to compete to take it.  We're still a ways off from that.  We are obviously going the dance route, rather than cheer, so this is a great class for her.  Her teacher said that by Christmas, we will see a major difference.  I look forward to it.  So this year, she's doing well over 3 hours of dancing a week.

Sage's 5th Year Dance Pics

Sage's dance pictures are back, and as usual, they are great.  This is her 5th year of dance at Sheila Lindley's, and we're finally starting to see all of that money we've poured into her.  Sage is really a good dancer.  If you don't believe me, I've got some video from parent week this week.

This was the first year that she was able to take jazz.  (You're actually supposed to be 9, but because she's taken for so long, she and 3 girls her age are in a class with 4th graders.)  Jazz is her favorite, too.  It's pretty fast with a lot going on, and I think that's why she likes it so much.  She does well.

Her ballet, which is probably my favorite costume.  It has the perfect tutu, which a lot of moms that have girls Sage's age demanded to have this year...but Sage has always had a tutu, I think.
Her tap, and her original pose, if you'll remember.  Super cute.
I went to the jazz class for parent week, but I didn't record.  I got sick on the next night with cold/fever like issues, so Travis went on Thursday when she has 2 classes and recorded.  Here is tap, and here is ballet.  A lot of girls were out this day because the state of Alabama pretty much shut down with the threat of storms.  What I like about this though is that it's easy to see Sage.  Jessica, her teacher, partnered with her, because obviously Sage's partner was absent, and Sage held her own with her, didn't she? I'm really thankful for this staff at this studio and what they've poured into my girl for many years now.

Tap Pictures

It's that time of year again--pictures for dance.  I've gotten WAY less stressed about this, almost to the point where I don't care at all.  Some people make SUCH a huge deal about it like they're the kids' bridal portraits.  We get ready in about 15-20 minutes and move on.  And I don't think you can tell a bit of difference in us and those that act as if it's a wedding.  :)  For some reason, this year they have not done any class pictures on the same day.  So by the time this month is over, I will have spent 3, if not 4 (for five year pics) of my Saturdays getting pictures made.  Not cool.  Anyway, here is Sage's tap costume.  She is getting so big.  She poses like this at home and when she gets there, they ask if she has a pose in mind and she clams up.  However, I showed Tracy this picture, and this first picture is the pose they used.  Sage was beaming.
Such a ham.  This had a big bow on a headband with it, but they didn't use it.  I personally liked it, so I had plans of my own...
Ha...Travis was not as amused as we were.

A Day of Rest

Sometimes I really enjoy doing nothing.  Okay, I enjoy that a lot.  It has gotten to the point that if I put makeup on, my kids ask where we are going, and that includes the 3 year old.  He's actually more observant of that than Sage is.  So yesterday, I did not have to sing at church so we stayed home.  It's not that I'm opposed to going when I'm not singing.  It's more like the last time I was there with Costner when I wasn't singing, someone asked me half way through church to move to the back where there were no seats anyways.  I didn't move when they asked me and almost laughed at them because they had no clue who I was.  None.  Not that I'm playing anchorman and saying, "I'm kind of a big deal," but I just thought if you'd gone there 12 years like this lady claimed to, she may have looked at the stage once in a while and known that I kind of know how things work around there and would never allow my baby to disrupt.   He was sleeping at the time too making ZERO noise, which made her even more annoying, but the moment he made a sound, I walked out.  So, if I'm going to be watching church from a screen, it's going to be from my computer and not in the lobby.  Just saying.  ANYWAY, we stayed home and the kids played so well yesterday.  Sage and Jaggar made a show.  She made them rehearse in her room, and after about an hour or so, they were ready.  I am SO sad that the CD got stuck because of how awesome they were, but you can catch a good bit of it here.  This totally cracks me up.  I'm so glad they are so close and was so thankful for a day of no place to be.

Then Sage informed me that she learned how to do the wobble from her coaches in PE.  I don't know whether to be proud of this or disturbed.  ;) I will say that we are finally able to see some of the thousands of dollars we've poured into her the past 5 years for dance.
